In May 2016, the European Commission’s SET (Strategic Energy Technology) Plan Secretariat published an ‘Issues Paper on Ocean Energy’. Its objective was to open a dialogue with EU countries and the ocean energy sector to improve European energy R&D policy.

Following extensive consultation with its members, and through TP Ocean (the Technology Platform for Ocean Energy) Ocean Energy Europe has prepared the official response to this paper on behalf of Europe’s ocean energy industry.

What happens next?

The European Commission will discuss their Issues Paper and the industry response with all EU countries at a meeting of the SET-Plan steering committee in mid-July. The Commission will then prepare a “Declaration” on ocean energy to feed and improve the SET-Plan.
