A first Strategic Research Agenda
R&I is crucial for ocean energy to meet its objectives. The SRA prioritises 12 research areas and proposes 54 research and innovation actions to bring ocean energy technologies forward.
The research areas have been attributed indicative budgets that industry, national authorities and the European Commission need to commit to R&I programmes.
The research areas, summarised below, cover three main R&I categories:
- Stepping up deployment to validate data and improve data collection;
- Improving materials to survive the sea environment;
- Developing a bespoke ocean energy supply chain.
This first ever European Strategic Research Agenda for ocean energy is the result of the work of TP Ocean – the European Technology and Innovation Platform for ocean energy. TP-Ocean is a network of over 220 ocean energy experts and professionals from 150 organisations across Europe.
TP Ocean was officially recognised in November 2014 by the European Commission as an official industry stakeholder in its Strategic Energy Technology Plan (SET-Plan).
