The Ocean Energy Europe Conference & Exhibition kicked off its 12th edition today in Brussels, Belgium and EU Oceans Commissioner Kadis delivered a keynote speech.
Commissioner Kadis toured the event’s exhibition, meeting with some of the leading companies in the ocean energy sector before taking the main stage following a session highlighting ocean energy’s role in the blue economy. Commissioner Kadis told the audience: ‘Ocean Energy is an opportunity to build a clean resilient and sustained future powered by European innovation. As I walked the exhibition I was very impressed by how European companies are transforming innovation into a reality. This is a genuine European success story. The European Commission is fully committed to the success of this sector and we will continue to encourage members states to include ocean energy in their national targets. Let’s build an ocean-powered sustainable blue economy!’
Ocean Energy Europe CEO Rémi Gruet opened the event by saying: ‘Ocean Energy technology has progressed significantly in the last 5 years, thanks to EU and national support schemes. Several utilities and institutional investors partnered with manufacturers to deploy pilot and pre-commercial projects. 165MW are slated for deployment over the next 5 years. And when that happens, we will have industrialised Ocean Energy.’
OEE2025 is the meeting point for the ocean energy sector. Its conference programme covers a vast array of ocean energy topics, from early R&D support to testing and certification to farm deployments. The first day’s sessions highlighted the 165 MW publicly funded pipeline across 15 ocean energy farms planned for the next five years in Europe and its European supply chain that makes these projects possible. The sold-out exhibition floor features leading companies, developers, investors and policy makers from all corners of the ocean energy sector, as well as a technical exhibition of real ocean energy technology.
