Ocean energy for a 100% decarbonised energy system @EUSEW 2019

Event overview

Date : 20/06/2019

Time : 20/06/2019 | 14:00 - 15:30

Location : Brussels, Belgium

Ocean Energy Europe is organising a session as part of the official European Sustainable Energy Week 2019 taking place from 17 to 21 June in Brussels.

This session will present ground-breaking initiatives showcasing various ways to integrate ocean energy with storage and variable renewables. Ocean energy technologies offer great system value. They are necessary to achieve the full decarbonisation of the energy sector and complement perfectly variable RES and storage technologies.

The European energy system will have to decarbonise fully to achieve the Union’s long-term emissions reduction objectives. Being flexible and predictable, ocean energy can make a substantial contribution to this objective. By 2050, the sector plans to deploy 100GW of generating capacity – enough to meet 10% of Europe’s electricity demand.
