10.05.23 The 5% innovation target: an opportunity to boost the development of ocean energy in your country

The innovation target is a new target included in the revision of the Renewable Energy Directive. It requires each EU Member State to set an indicative target of at least 5% of new installed renewable capacity between 2023 and 2030 as being from innovative renewable technologies. Ocean energy fully fits under the definition of ‘innovative renewables’, meaning that deployments can be counted by Member States towards this new target.
